Aspen Day Camp is a child care, learning adventure experience designed to foster the love, the joy, and the respect for all aspects of nature, especially the mountains and all the species that inhabit it…and here is how it all began.
I have been working with children since 2007. I started babysitting my nieces and nephews at the early age of 15. Every morning after my 6am summer football workouts, I would go straight to my aunt’s house to help watch my cousins while she went to work. It was during those hot summer days playing with my cousins out by the pool or fishing in the backyard pond when I realized I had a love and passion for working with kids.
After visiting Aspen for the first time in the summer of 2011, I knew this is where I would somehow end up. During this visit, I had the opportunity to help as a camp counselor for a couple of weeks before beginning my freshman year of college football. Before finishing those two weeks, the camp leaders had no doubt that I had a noticeable passion and natural ability to work and connect with kids. I was then asked to stay on for the rest of the summer…and the rest is history.
It was not until the summer of 2016 that I decided to make Aspen my new home. Growing up in Texas, my family and I were fortunate to be able to go most every summer and winter on camping and ski trips. These “adventures” took place in many areas throughout Colorado i.e. Estes Park, Wolf Creek, Breckenridge, Durango, and Creede just to mention a few. So, finding a love for the mountains and everything it had to offer at an early age was not a hard thing for me to embrace. I told my parents at an early age that one day I would be a “mountain man” and would live in Colorado.
After graduating in 2016 from The University of North Texas with a degree in Kinesiology and with the intentions of becoming a teacher and coach, I decided to move to Aspen to possibly coach football and teach skiing during the winters. Since I spent the past 7+ years in Aspen as a camp counselor, including the past two years as a camp director for one of the prominent Aspen country clubs, I decided to start Aspen Day Camp in the Fall of 2017.
